Benedict name check in Simon Pegg’s interview

Simon admitted, however, feeling a little jet lagged — he, wife Maureen and Matilda have been living in Los Angeles since January while he was playing Starship Enterprise chief engineer Scotty in the next Star Trek film.

Simon — “fatboy” Dennis in Run Fatboy Run — added: “Because the rest of the crew on Star Trek are very young, I’ve been working out with a trainer.”

Director JJ Abrams picked three other Brits — Alice Eve, Noel Clarke and Benedict Cumberbatch — for the new Star Trek film, which opens next year.

Simon said: “We had a whole little British corner, which JJ used to joke about us taking over.”

He had a lot of fun working with Sherlock actor Benedict, who readers voted the sexiest man in a Sun poll.

Simon revealed: “Oh, he told me he had won all right.

“We went out one night and he said ‘You’ll never guess what, I am The Sun’s sexiest man’. And I was like, ‘That’s amazing. That is so cool’.”

“Benedict is such a good guy, he’s a really sweet person and I love that he’s getting this success because he’s also a great actor. I worked a lot with him on Star Trek. He is part of the threat in the film.”
