Benedict Cumberbatch and Amanda Abbington at the Apple Store Q&A
There you go guys! This fandom can calm down now! :’)
I can’t speak for the whole fandom, but let me just say that many of us collectively apologize for any disrespectful or senselessly hateful comments. Also we’re sorry if our artwork was thrust upon you against your wishes. Most of us truly want a civilized conversation that breeds understanding where no ones feelings are hurt.
And talking to her, she says she realizes now that we were offended because we’re so often treated as freaks for doing what is ultimately something that helps us feel less alone, less of a freak.
I’m fairly content now. Hope we can if not move past it, have a good dialogue about it.
Oh, that’s really good of her! Kudos! Did you communicate with her yourself?
I think it’s pretty crappy you tweeted her. It’s not actually her job to be concerned about your feelings. I don’t like what she said but it’s not her problem that you felt like she was “shaming” you. I know that you’re patting yourself on the back right now and so are the people I follow who reblogged this I guess but I think this was a pretty shitty move and it’s actually pretty cool that she acknowledged you at all and was nice about it.
I have to agree.
She already apologized, but now she has to engage in this or she’s going to look insincere. She’s basically been forced into this conversation. There’s even a point where she just goes, “Well, yes, I realise that now. I can only apologize” as if trying to get you to understand that you’re dragging it out, and you still keep going. There was no need to do a “follow up”. It’s like you’re slowly rubbing her nose in it.
No, she doesn’t have to reply. I’m not the only person replying to her tweets, you know.
And my reply to “Well, yes, I realise that now. I can only apologize.” I went “It’s cool.”
She doesn’t have to normally, but in this case she does. Like I said, she might have to or it looks like she’s ignoring you.
All I’m saying is to me it looks like she’s engaging in it because she felt she had to now.
Amanda is amazing. Although I understand your wanting to explain why you felt offended, anglofile, I think Amanda sleeping on it, thinking about it, and even bothering to apologize for it is absolutely amazing. I rarely encounter this sort of sincere apology online. Engaging once would have been plenty, although I do now you weren’t trying to be rude.
So putting that aside, I’m really happy to see that Amanda understands, when quite frankly, she could have just let it go. Although I wasn’t very happy about it initially yesterday, I also knew where she was coming from when it comes to protecting one’s family. It was probably just something that honest to god did not occur to her as being offensive to anyone, and yeah, we can leave it at that. She’s amazing and she has done plenty to be a joy to the people within this fandom.
Anyway, what’s done is done for now. Let’s not drag it out any longer and move on, shall we? :)
