I got a really gross, repulsed feeling when there was an audience cheer for Benedict Cumberbatch during Rebecca Hall’s BAFTA clip, because what the flying hell was that.
I love Benedict Cumberbatch, make no mistake. Dude’s got sex appeal and charm and charisma out the wazoo and he’s an adorably ‘regular’ dude outside of performing, etc, etc.
Also one time he hugged me, which is pretty fly.But this isn’t about Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s about Rebecca Hall. That is the point of it being her nomination video, that it was hers. The fact that Benedict is seen in the clip shouldn’t be relevant, because it is not about him.
When the cheer went up I that sinking feeling, that ‘These people don’t care about the woman being nominated’ feeling.
(i’d love to be wrong about that but how many people cheered)I don’t get it. I don’t get how someone/many someone’s can be so god-damned self-absorbed - and let’s be clear, it’s unequivocally self-absorption, because based on everything he presents I imagine Benedict was mortified by the fact people celebrated him during someone else’s moment in the limelight - as to let their fandoms and love for said fandoms actively invade the moments where it is not about them or their fandoms.
It’s just rude, in the most egregious manner.
I wish it wouldn’t happen, is all.
(also it makes me really angry how a dude got cheers during a lady’s presentation but i can’t tell if that’s actual sexism or a micro-aggression or nothing at all)
I’m sorry but I can’t let this one slide. NOPE.
This is awful. The fact that this happened.
Rebecca Hall is a wonderful actress. Her role in Parade’s End was incredible.
I love Benedict, don’t get me wrong! Look at my blog right?! BUT SERIOUSLY????
I have nothing else to add to this beyond that. You have summed it up well, trevor4president.

Just read on my dash that PBS has “trimmed” the second series of Sherlock. Apparently bits have been cut out? Is that true?
WHY
I can possibly understand if it is a time issue…but doesn’t public television usually NOT have that problem because they don’t really have commercials? (I know they have big business “sponsors” now in the last 15 years or so, but still).
I’m not 100% sure if that’s true and I don’t know what’s going on. But that really sucks. I’m glad I have it on blu-ray and have seen it already.
